What do you feel when you  receive a call from your child’s school teacher that your son or daughter is a little angel , a rare gem who is highly disciplined and who always puts the best foot forward?

The teacher continues: oh, your child is so polite, so well behaved, does what is told and speaks with a lot of respect. Your child is so nice. What an approval of your dedication as a parent.

And how about the feeling of been surrounded by numerous progeny full of love and  life, a jolly  family where everybody feels the air  of being at home and of course the feeling of being a parent to an obedient child.

There is but one great feeling- that you are a proud parent, a feat many modern parents struggle to achieve and where the overwhelming majority of mothers and fathers can only dream about.

I am sure as a parent you are looking up to receive such calls. It’s what every home and family is longing for. A disciplined child is the beauty of holding the family together.

If parents do not hold on to the embodiment of positive parenting, there is a pitfall, the shrilling shame of receiving a distress call about your child’s disorderliness at school.

Remember when Umm Anas presented her son to our beloved prophet (peace be upon him) during the migration to Madina, she was a poor mother  but she had a very special and expensive gift for the Messenger of Allah-  her young son Anas Ibn Malik.

And to be Umm Anas means to be an honourable Muslim parent. It’s not just about making a mark in the world but it’s all about what one will send forward to the next eternal world.

Do you want to receive that special call?

In an exciting event this Saturday, 14th of December, the Mombasa Learning Centre gears up to bring the basic but vitals tips to help you weather the storm of modern parenting.

MLC will host both male and female parents in a one day session aimed at edging off the heebie-jeebies of these edgy times when a lot of factors that go into being a modern parent have changed.

Experts will highlight what it means to be responsible parents while providing insightful perspectives on contemporary issues. The take- home message is for you to be a loving parent and your child to provide the joy that you yearn for.

From the point of modern parenting, the event hopes to strengthen parental models in order to encourage children’s moral, physical, and intellectual development and instil a sense of responsibility in them.

A lot of emphasis will be made with regards to Islamic parenting where caring for and raising children in the proper manner is a duty on parents-both mother and father.

Who is a good child?

A good child is the apple of his parent’s eye, a sign of mercy from Allah (SW) that He has allowed us to have children and that we must take care of them in the most honorable way.

From a very young age, children must be allowed to grow with an enormous confidence and strength of purpose in order to reassure the family in particular and the society in general about their future roles.

They must be freed from the shackles of modernization that has come with a lot of ravages. Moderation and modesty must be part of the rules at every home that intends to build a prosperous family.

Our beloved prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:  “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.  The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.  A man is the shepherd of his family and is responsible for his flock.  A woman is the shepherd of her husband’s household and is responsible for her flock”.
