The soaring sun and the excessive coastal heat was not enough to stop hundreds of Muslims who walked on Sunday morning during a Ramadan charity event to feed the poor in Mombasa.

The event raises funds for Iftar programme that provides food to thousands of families across the Muslim dominated coastal region.

The walking route started from Masjid Rahman towards Mamba roundabout and descended down to Links Road onwards to Masjid Omar Faruq which was the end of the route.

The charity walk was part of a combination of humanitarian activities ahead of the holy month organized by Mombasa based Nyali Dawa Group, an Islamic charity organization that has been engaged in proving food for fasting Muslims.

The community based organization, through individual donations from Mosque congregants, has helped thousands of poor Muslims to break their Ramadan fast at sunset for the last seven years.

These group of  cyclists participated in a 100km race to raise funds for poor Muslims of Mombasa ahead of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Officials of Nyali Dawa Group also organised a 100km cycling race from Bamba to Mombasa to consolidate more charity efforts in their ‘Feed the Needy in Ramadan’ programme.

“This year, we added cycling race and charity walk to seek more funds from the public and to increase the number of families we feed “said Tahir Osman a member of the charity.

Earlier on the day, Mombasa senator Mohamed Faki, flagged off the group’s charity walk, the same as the cycling race aimed at raising funds for the Iftar program.

“This is a worthy course and we are appealing to well-wishers to come and help the initiative “said the senator. “It is important to donate especially during Ramadan”

Donations are still being taken through the group’s Mpesa platform: Paybill Number: 646759  Account Name: Iftar
