Wajir North Member of Parliament Ibrahim Saney has publicly endorsed Governor Ahmed Abdullahi to contest for the Wajir County Senate seat in the next general election, positioning him as the frontrunner for the role.
Speaking on Sunday during Madaraka Day celebrations in Tarbaj, the outspoken legislator praised the governor’s leadership credentials and development record, describing him as the most suitable candidate to represent the county in the Senate.
“By God, from 2013 to 2017 this man worked hard,” the MP told an enthusiastic crowd in a rare and pointed political gesture backing Governor Abdullahi’s potential Senate bid.
Saney urged the two-term governor to continue holding the county’s political mantle, lauding him as both a trailblazer and an experienced leader who commands respect across the county.
“We are lucky to have a second term governor, we have an elder and we are ready for him to lead us,” he stated.
The MP also called on the governor to play a central role in uniting the county’s political leadership and guiding the selection of the next gubernatorial candidate, emphasising the need for cohesion and cost-effective campaigns.
“We want him to unite Wajir people and help us pick the right candidate without confrontations and much resources,” said Saney
Highlighting Governor Abdullahi’s credentials, the MP described him as a professional leader who understands local politics deeply, referencing his tenure as county governor and as Chair of the Council of Governors.
He further remarked that despite Abdullahi’s long-standing political service, he remains youthful and energetic enough to continue serving the county in a different capacity.
The MP’s remarks have stirred fresh political momentum in Wajir, with Governor Ahmed Abdullahi now emerging as the first publicly fronted senatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
