Local leaders called for calm and a return to the path of peace and reconciliation following increased spate of clan rivalry that led to death of scores of residents in Wajir County.
Led by Wajir deputy governor, Ahmed Ali Mukhtar, the political leaders have asked residents to embrace peace and live in harmony in order to foster the spirit of communal brotherhood.
“We preached the gospel of peace among the residents who are also ready to embrace brotherhood and tranquility” the deputy governor posted on his Facebook page. “Our administration is committed to achieving peaceful co-existence among all”
He was accompanied by Wajir East MP Hon. Rashid Kassim, former MP Abass Sheikh and a host of other local leaders when they toured Bojigaras, the scene of recent violent clan attacks.
They urged the residents and stakeholders in security apparatus to be cautious and be vigil in a bid to avoid escalation of hostilities within the contending clans.
“We will work with all stakeholders to avert any further escalations so that communities can coexist peacefully” said Rashid Kassim, Wajir East MP, shortly after their visit to victims of the conflict who were admitted at Wajir’s main hospital.
“Achieving cohesion and integration between communities in Wajir East constituency is key to prosperous future and InshaAllah we will overcome this in shortest time possible” said the MP.
The pastoral county that is known for repeated clan hostilities has in recent days experienced violent and deadly clashes particularly in Eldas and Wajir East constituencies .
