Tarbaj Member of Parliament, Hon. Hussein Abdi Barre, has strongly criticised the 2025/26 National Budget to be presented by Treasury Cabinet Secretary, John Mbadi, accusing it of blatantly excluding Northern Kenya from critical development funding.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the MP expressed deep frustration over what he termed as “unjust treatment” of the region.
He stated that the budget by CS Mbadi offered “literally nothing” for Northern Kenya in key sectors, signaling continued marginalization of the region.
“Even the only project we demanded, the Horn of Africa Gateway Road, has been left in limbo,” he noted. “Only the pending bills amounting to KSh 6 billion have been included, which will lead to the withdrawal of contractors by next year.”
Barre challenged fellow legislators from the region to break their silence and collectively denounce the systemic exclusion.
He urged for an immediate review of the budget to include equitable development allocations for Northern Kenya. “This is unacceptable,” he said firmly. “No to systemic exclusion.”
The remarks have sparked fresh debate on regional equity in Kenya’s public finance management and are expected to put pressure on Parliament to revisit the allocation framework.
