Leaders from Wajir and Mandera counties have issued a strong rebuke to Dela Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Yussuf Hussein, over his recent abductions remarks against Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi.
In a press statement on Saturday, the leaders expressed outrage and disappointment, terming the accusations as unfounded. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Wajir East MP Hon. Adan Daud rejected the MCA’s claims.
“We are here to condemn the utterances. We have deliberated on the matter and we feel that his statement was wrong and unfounded,” the MP stated. “As a community we feel that that was wrong.”
The leaders stressed their commitment to pursuing justice, stating that they would explore both legal and traditional dispute-resolution mechanisms to ensure the matter is handled appropriately and fairly.
Their press conference followed a separate briefing by Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who vehemently dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and completely unfounded.
Speaking on Saturday, the Governor condemned the accusations and warned that such reckless claims could incite public unrest and erode the progress made in fostering unity and stability.
“The allegations made in the statement coming from a leader are speculative, unfortunate, false, misleading and meant to stir emotions amongst the people of Wajir,” the governor stated.
Governor Abdullahi accused a section of political actors in Wajir of orchestrating a smear campaign against him, using the incident as a tool for political sabotage.
“It would be unfortunate for my political enemies or any other person out there to make good the ulterior motives indicated in the statement with the intention to blame me,” he warned, adding that such actions pose “threats on my life, security and well-being.”
The Governor concluded by stating that he will take legal action against MCA Yussuf Hussein for what he described as a reckless and damaging attack on both his personal integrity and the office he holds.
