The speaker of Wajir County Assembly Mr. Ibrahim Yakub is finding himself in a hot soup following his outrageous gaffe that has been interpreted as an insult to the leadership and integrity of the elected members.

In a dramatic comment delivered on Wednesday via the local media, Yakub was caught on camera asking assembly members to take advantage of the rainy season and ‘have milk’

“They are going back to attend to their people. Right now it’s a rainy season, they will go and have enough milk “ The speaker said responding to questions from a host of local journalists.

Residents have taken issue with the speaker’s inappropriate annotations that have seemingly offended them sparking an online onslaught throughout social media networks.

“We did not expect this kind of comments from the house speaker. We are wondering what he is up to when he is telling honorable members to go and drink milk. I mean isn’t this ridiculous” Abdikadir Jimale told The Plu “

“We have elected the house reps to work for us the people, telling them to go and have fun is to belittle the residents. He has to apologize for this publicly”

The speaker’s comment came hot on the heels of an aborted debate on Wednesday when some members of the assembly engaged in a physical rumble within the champers scuttling a deliberation that was anticipated to change the house’s leadership.

Majority of the assembly members have since accused the speaker of usurping their democratic powers by illegally stopping them to deliver ‘their majority say’ an issue they said is a violation of the house’s standing orders.

Elben MCA Mohamed Ahmed led a host of others in disproving the executive’s increasing interference of the house’s business, occasioning a political standoff that is likely to delay motions for the next few weeks.

“The main cause of this fracas is the executive with a hidden hand” the MCA said “and the main reason is that they have an interest, they are looking for someone who will enhance their interest in the assembly. It is very unfortunate for the executive to manipulate this house”

For the second time this year, the assembly was marred by violence and leadership malpractice further putting its business into an endless recession.

With few more days before the court of appeal delivers its ruling on the ongoing gubernatorial petition, Wajir County is slowly sliding into an endless melodrama affecting service delivery as both its assembly and executive involve themselves in a political tag of war.
