Mombasa is expected to transform into a vibrant world class commercial hub of excellence that promotes diversity, natural environment and heritage. A blueprint master plan unveiled by Governor Hassan Joho envisions.
The plan dubbed Integrated Strategic Urban Development Plan (Mombasa Vision 2035-MV35) promises to address critical sectors such as the economy and environment.
“The overall aim of the ISUDP is to promote and provide sustainable development of Mombasa, enabling it to accommodate the needs of existing and future residents, and also to facilitate its prime function as commercial and trading city” Read part of the proposal
The story of new Mombasa will begin with the development and integration of key economic sectors making it a port city of vibrant economy and of seamless connectivity.
As part of this prestigious plan, residents of Mombasa will have access to a wide range of amenities and social facilities, including safety and security, health care services and green parks located along the beautiful seafront of the port city.
The city will be fully integrated for work and live, connected by its major port and its proposed rail networks, Mombasa may be a city in the heaven.
In the arrangement that will be laid out into 3 phases, 6 stages and 33 activities, the county authorities proposed extensive and well coordinated programs for construction of roads, water supply, harbour expansion, sewage disposal and affordable housing.
Govenor Joho said during the launch that the ambitious economic master plan will double Mombasa’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Mombasa should have marched into the present but instead it limped. The population grew but the infrastructure remained the same. This is a tale of missed opportunities,” said Joho.
