The office of Garissa County Women Representative on Tuesday has come to the aid of households that were recently affected by flash floods in Mansa Bubu location of Garissa County.

Women MP Udgoon Siyad said on X (formerly Twitter) that the aid is a restoration effort to offer relief to victims of deluge following the recent El Nino rains that have pounded the region resulting in destruction and displacement.

“Yesterday, a compassionate team from my office embarked on a visit to Mansa Bubu, a town that has been severely impacted by recent floods. Our primary objective was to assist in the form of food and non-food items to support the community during their restoration efforts” The MP said

The MP said the provision of humanitarian aid in Mansa Bubu aims to ensure that basic sustenance is available to the victims in the form of food and non-food items.

“Undunderstanding the immense challenges faced by the affected residents, we aimed to alleviate their immediate needs and contribute to the recovery process,” She said

Her office is planning to extend similar timely interventions to help hundreds of households across the vast Garissa county in the coming days.

“Our commitment to assisting the communities affected by the floods does not end with Mansa Bubu. In the coming days, we will be extending our efforts to various other villages within each of the sub-counties that have also experienced significant damage”

Across the Northeastern region, floods resulted in displacement and destruction of several settlements.  According to the National El Nino Emergency and Disaster Control Centre, the rains led to the loss of 174 lives across the country, including 133 adults and 41 children.
