The third edition of the ‘Don’t Hide Me’ campaign entered its second day in Wajir County, with organisers aiming to uplift and support children living with various forms of disabilities through a comprehensive range of services.
So far, over 300 individuals have been registered in the ongoing drive, which is designed to restore dignity to persons with disabilities by facilitating access to essential health, social, and civil documentation services.
Spearheaded by Safe Surgical Aid, the campaign has brought together a strong coalition of partners and well-wishers, including the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), Kenya Red Cross, National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), the County Government of Wajir, Civil Registration Department, Social Health Authority (SHA), Imall, and Ifly.
The office of Wajir East Member of Parliament Hon. Aden Daud is among the sponsors of the initiative, underlining the urgent need for such inclusive outreach in the region.
The campaign targets children with developmental disabilities, offering critical services such as medical and developmental assessments, physiotherapy sessions, hearing tests and registration with the NCPWD. Additionally, birth certificate processing and SHA registration are being carried out on-site to ease access to government services.
“This is our third campaign under the ‘Don’t Hide Me’ initiative,” said Ali Bashir of Safe Surgical Aid. “This is our second day of the camp that will culminate tomorrow”
Medical doctors and health professionals have been deployed to ensure quality care throughout the campaign that has attracted hundreds of disabled people from as far as Lagboghol.
Local residents have warmly welcomed the initiative, praising the efforts of Safe Surgical Aid and its partners for bringing vital services closer to the disability community.
Organisers have also revealed plans to hold the fourth edition of the ‘Don’t Hide Me’ campaign in Mandera later this year, in a continued effort to extend services and hope to marginalised communities across Northern Kenya.
