Wajir County achieved a significant milestone in its healthcare sector by becoming the first county in Kenya to acquire advanced blood processing equipment, including an apheresis machine. This achievement results from a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Health, underscoring the county’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

In a statement on social media,  Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi highlighted that the new equipment will dramatically reduce delays in emergency transfusions and enhance patient care. “This equipment is a game-changer, particularly for managing conditions like obstetric hemorrhage, severe anaemia, and Kala-azar, which have long been a burden to our communities,” he explained.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health whose presence reinforced the shared commitment between Wajir County and the Ministry to enhance healthcare services.

Governor Abdullahi emphasized the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the county’s health systems, ensuring equitable access to quality care, especially in remote areas. “This achievement reflects our dedication to providing equitable, quality healthcare for all. We are committed to strengthening our health systems and ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly in our most remote areas,” he said.

With the introduction of this new equipment, Wajir County is poised to set a precedent for other counties in Kenya, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts to drive meaningful improvements in healthcare delivery.
