The County Government of Wajir has committed to fast-track achievement of global climate milestones while partnering with key stakeholders to address the relentless adversities of changing weather partners in the county.
Wajir County Department of Environment and Climate Change on Tuesday led crucial deliberations on addressing climate change and its impact on local communities at a meeting attended by officials from the World Food Program (WFP), Swedish Embassy and the Swedish International Development Corporation Agency (SIDA).
According to county officials, the purpose of the high-profile climate meeting was to enhance collaboration and exchange ideas regarding climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
County Chief Officer of Environment and Climate Change Rahow Hussein said the focus was on strengthening community-led climate actions, improving existing climate change structures at various administrative levels, and showcasing the county’s response to climate-induced disasters through community-based initiatives at ward levels.
“This visit strengthened ties between Wajir County and the Swedish delegation, fostering a collaborative spirit in tackling climate change challenges.” The CCO said
Wajir county regarded as one of the remaining hotspots of pastoralism in Africa suffers from a relenltess devastation of climate change, causing cyclic droughts and unpreceded flash floods.
