In a significant step towards empowering women in Wajir, Hon. Fatuma Abdi Jehow, the County Women Representative distributed funds to 60 women’s groups as part of the women’s economic empowerment program. The event, held earlier this Wednesday, saw a total of Ksh 4 million allocated to support the women’s groups in expanding their economic ventures.
Hon. Fatuma underscored the crucial role women play as the backbone of both society and the economy. She highlighted that empowering women does not just change their lives, but also positively influences their families and communities.
“Women are the backbone of our economy, and their success uplifts entire families and communities. Investing in their education, growth, and a brighter future for all is key to unlocking our collective potential,” she stated.
In her address, Hon. Fatuma reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to supporting women, youth, persons with disabilities, and all sectors of society, expressing her vision through the powerful phrase “MAMA ni wa WOTE” (Mama is for everyone).
Rehema Dida Jaldesa, the Chairperson of the National Gender and Equality Commission, praised Hon. Fatuma’s leadership and dedication to meaningful change. She noted that such impactful initiatives are rare and acknowledged the importance of women leaders in driving development. Jaldesa also urged the beneficiaries to make prudent investments with the funds, ensuring the creation of sustainable economic opportunities for themselves and their communities.
Among the beneficiaries, Anastacia Wanjiku, a resident of Wajir town, expressed her heartfelt gratitude. “This initiative will transform our lives as women in this community. I thank Hon. Fatuma for her continued support and commitment to empowering us. We urge her to continue this incredible work,” Wanjiku said.
